Plant Automation Engineer (Troubleshooting Focus)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Plant Automation Engineer with 3–5 years of experience who excels at troubleshooting and resolving issues across automated production systems and mechanical equipment. This role is critical to maintaining uptime, improving system reliability, and supporting projects across multiple plant locations as needed.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in PLC-controlled systems, HMIs, robotics, and industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment, including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support maintenance and production teams in resolving recurring automation and mechanical issues.
  • Modify and optimize PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Travel between plant locations to support troubleshooting, commissioning, and project implementation.
  • Assist with installation, startup, and validation of new or upgraded automation equipment.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system changes, troubleshooting procedures, and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial automation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot both automation systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming and debugging (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with sensors, VFDs/servo drives, and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between facilities as project needs arise.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and data collection.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.

Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to moving equipment, noise, and varying conditions.
  • Travel required to support multiple locations and project needs.
  • Candidate can choose locations between Rural Hall NC or Georgetown SC
  • Position reports directly to the NA Engineering Manager
